entertaining ideas

Last weekend's dinner got me thinking... there are a lot of great entertaining ideas out there that I think we should be sharing.  What do you think?  Do you have some tips that make your dinners and brunches with family and friends just that little bit more special or just down right perfect?
Do you want to share them with us?

someone pointed out that those are the bodega glasses in persimmon on the table- some of my favorites!

I am finding beauty in the simplicity as Andrea does. Christina I often use a circle or row of mercury glass tealights, with a piece or two of pottery filled with boxwood. Lovely Linens with a simple runner or tablecloth. Not to fussy yet special.

Here are my few tips to make entertainment more special:
- Get the best quality ingredients you can afford. This also applies to alcoholic drinks.
- Prepare as much things as you can from scratch, try to avoid anything pre-made or store-bought. It makes a real difference.
- Pick a colour theme and stick to it.
- Decorate your table with fresh herbs and flowers.
- Don't overcharge your table. Keep it simple and chic.
- Try finger-food in mini bowls and plates. There's nothing cuter.

Hope that helps!

No great ideas but I'm loving that whole space. Those floors are gorgeous but like most Americans I would probably take the patina out and have them refinish...sigh/

Oh, this is so funny, but I posted the pink bedroom (among many other images) on my blog post from last night-- about Chinoiserie! On an unrelated note, I used to be able to put in my blog URL/name manually, but I can't any longer and there's a bug on blogger with "open ID". It says that I do not own my own blog which is on WP. Oh well. xo ~ Laurel

It has taken me years to simplify but I agree with Sophie Marie, fresh herbs are simple and lovely with lots of votives and candles. We love setting a table up outside in front of the fireplace when weather permits! Great idea for a post!
