It depends on the party, the people and the mood. Over the top can be memorable, chic and fun, but simple can feel cozy, warm and welcoming. I like to mix it up! For New Years we're doing a combination: simple in that its just three couples at home, but over the top in decor and food. Can't wait!
I believe holidays should be celebrated! So, just like your birthday, Christmas comes just once a year . . . so I say go all out!!! (like I need the excuse anyhow! haha) xo Samantha @ Vintage is for Lovers
What a fun image!!! I have always said either over the top or simple for christmas, nothing in between otherwise it can look too generic. I did simple in my dining room and the tree in the family room and the mantel are always over the top. I just have too many ornaments to do simple!!! I love Christmas and all its fun variety of decor. Merry Christmas,Kathysue

I like a mixture of simple with really amazing details. Over the top is definitely fun though.

I like simple for my house; but I love visit places that are well done and over the top!
If I am entertaining, I like the simple, haha. If someone else is doing the entertaining, I say go all out!
Beautiful image.

For a special event, I always prefer "over the top." I love an excuse to lavishly decorate and to wear something special.
I prefer simple but like you I waffle back and forth, love this image!
Visually...I enjoy a mix...cus the simple enhance the grand...and vice versa. :)

What a stunning photo!
I vacillate between both -- probably more ornate if someone else is doing the decorating and the dismantling!

If I can afford the time and money, then why not? Have a happy holiday! Kellie xx

Like a photograph of my dreams.

I like simple with just hint of over the top elegance...especially if it's French inspired!
Merry, merry!

I often find myself straddling the fence between simple (less is more) and lavish. I probably end up, most Christmases, somewhere in the middle!
Love the goose.

I say go all out. Celebrate! ...and I'm loving the new IKEA ads. The Boho bit is, as usual, right up my alley. xo
I am more of an over the top girl, myself! xo
